They had been looking at larger places — some of the well-known senior living communities in Oakland County — and they expected that what we do was on the same spectrum, just smaller. What they find is something categorically different.
We are not a scaled-down version of a large assisted living facility. We are a home. There is no lobby, no activity director running a calendar, no dining hall. There is a kitchen, a living room, and a porch. There are a small number of people who live here, and caregivers who know each of them.
Birmingham is about twenty minutes from Troy. We have had families come to us from Maple Road and Woodward and the neighborhoods around downtown. The drive is easy. The familiarity of staying in the same part of Oakland County, close to doctors and friends and the places your loved one has known for years, matters to a lot of families.
What We Offer
Golden Pines has two locations in Troy: Herbmoor House at 6131 Herbmoor St and the Daley Home at 3178 Daley Dr. Both are licensed adult foster care homes under Michigan LARA. Both operate on the same philosophy: small is intentional, personal care is not optional, and the home should feel like a home.
Meals are cooked fresh every day in both houses. We do not have a central kitchen and we do not use food service trays. If a resident has a dietary preference or restriction, we accommodate it. If someone has not been eating well and we want to figure out what they actually enjoy, we find out. Food is one of the most reliable ways to show someone they are seen and cared for, and we take it seriously.

If you are in Birmingham and you are comparing options, here is what we would say: visit us and visit a larger facility on the same day. Walk in both doors. Pay attention to how both places feel. Not the brochure version, not the sales tour — how the place actually feels when you are standing in it.
We are not the right choice for everyone. Some people genuinely thrive in a larger community with more programming and more social options. But for a person who values quiet, consistency, and the feeling of being known — our homes are worth a serious look.

I have to mention Cannelle Patisserie. It is on Old Woodward in Birmingham and it is, genuinely, my favorite bakery in Michigan — maybe my favorite in the country. The croissants are right. The lamination is right. It is the kind of place where you go once and then find reasons to go back. Birmingham has always had that quality — things made with real care, real technique, no shortcuts. I think about that when families from Birmingham visit our homes. They know the difference between something that looks good and something that actually is good. So do we.
