Madison Heights is just south of Troy, close enough that families there sometimes end up visiting us on the same day they are first doing research — which is fine. We are always happy to show the homes to someone who has not been planning to come but happens to be in the area and wants to see what we are about.
The drive from Madison Heights to our Troy homes is about fifteen minutes. For families who want to stay involved in a parent's daily life — stopping by after work, visiting on weekends, being part of the routine rather than a scheduled visitor — that proximity is genuinely important.
We have had residents come to us from Madison Heights and families who, once the transition happened, became regular visitors. Not because they were obligated to, but because they felt welcome and because their parent wanted them there. That is the dynamic we try to create.
Who We Are
Golden Pines is two small residential homes in Troy. Herbmoor House is on the north end of the city near 48098. The Daley Home is on the south end near I-75, closer to Madison Heights. Both are licensed adult foster care homes under Michigan LARA. Both are run by the same team, with the same approach.
We are not a franchise. We are not a corporate chain. We are a small operation that started with one home and grew because families kept telling other families about us. The growth has been deliberate and slow, because what we do only works at a certain scale. We have no interest in being the biggest. We have every interest in being the best — for the people who live here.
What Makes a Good Fit
Not every person is a right fit for our homes, and we are honest about that. We work best with residents who:
Need help with activities of daily living — meals, medications, bathing, dressing — but do not need around-the-clock skilled nursing.
Benefit from a consistent, quieter environment. Our homes are calm. They are not programmed with constant activity. Some people love that. Others want more stimulation.
Have family who wants to stay involved. Our model works best when families are partners in the care, not occasional visitors.

Madison Heights has Green Lantern Pizza, which has been around since 1955 and has been called the best pizza in Metro Detroit by more people than I can count. Thick crust, pepperoni cut fresh, dough made daily. The original is on John R Road. I mention it because it is the kind of institution that only exists in places where people actually stay — where the same families have been eating the same food for seventy years and see no reason to stop. That kind of rootedness is something Madison Heights has, and it is something we aspire to as well.
